Change

Everyone changes. The world changes. Life is impermanent. This idea can be difficult when one attaches themselves to a particular identify or a place. If we attach ourselves more to a particular identify, resistance to change increases. If someone strongly believes they have a particular mindset or habits, how will change be possible? Simultaneously, you may have liked a particular city or workplace, but after a few years, the environment changed in negative ways. Perhaps, being somewhere different is more beneficial.

The person you were yesterday is not the same person you are today. You can change. You may be a successful athlete, but are bored with a sport or with training after a decade.  Beining honest with yourself and thinking about other avenues for happiness is okay. Additionally, just because your good at doing something does not mean you need to continue doing a specific action if you’re not happy.

I used to greatly enjoy going to the gym and then after a decade, my motivation changed. I did not enjoy lifting weights as much.  So, I recognized the important of fitness and nutrition and continued working out, but also shortened my workouts, did different kinds of training, ran more, and did other new activities, such as skydiving and scuba diving. I used to love living in Thailand especially because I can speak Thai. However, places change and I began to feel my values and other ideas did not match my environment.

So, I travelled and saw new countries and currently have not decided upon a particular place to settle or whether I would like to change residence every few months. Change is not easy. Reflection is required. Asking yourself what do you really want personally and professionally is a big question. Working with a coach can help you to uncover your true desires, facilitate reflection, and develop avenues to change in new ways.
